Whale Tail Necklace Xlarge Large Small Pair

Inspired by whale songs at night, feel the ocean with you, wherever you go.

There is something about the weight of a solid silver whale tail resting against your chest.

Cool. Substantial. Real.

Not stamped from a sheet. Not cast in a mould. Built by my hands, the way the ocean builds everything. Slowly. With intention. From nothing wasted.

Nothing is wasted. Everything is reborn.

Every whale tail I make begins as leftover scraps.

Old wire. Offcuts. My oops moments. They get to be reborn. Something better, something more heartfelt.

I melt them with a torch until they glow molten orange, pools of liquid silver running into small balls. Each ball is hammered flat into an oval or circle, and my trusty dremel helps shape the flukes of each tail.

I use half-round sterling silver ring wire to create the raised spine and it's carefully soldered in place. Run your thumb across it. You will feel it. A natural ridge. A gentle curve. The thick, dimensional shape of a tail that just broke the surface.

Two layers of recycled sterling silver, built up by hand. One piece at a time. Stamped 925 with a little dash of sunshine added to the back.

No two are ever exactly the same.

One design is crafted larger and heavier, called Xlarge, still all solid sterling silver and the smaller is called Large, a little more delicate and feminine. The teeny Small ones are what I have created as earrings. Added pearls, gemstones or shells make them even more special.

Why the whale tail?

It was born from a beautiful mistake.

Years back I was trying to create a friendship piece, you know, like the two halves of a moon. When it fell apart, it landed on my table like a whale tail. Right then, I knew it was special. My very own whale tail, and I have been making them ever since.

Things have changed since then. I am fortunate to spend time on our sailing boat and hear them sing underwater, glide alongside us and feel the water shift as they glide underneath us anchored in just 6 metres of water.

Now they are made for you as your reminder to go with the flow. To trust where you are. To embrace the wild, adventurous soul you carry with you every single day.

Originally created as a larger symbol for men. For that person who is hard to find the perfect gift.... but now I find just as many ladies love them too! A little bolder, meaningful, with real weight behind each one.
