Who’s behind Ray of Sunshine Jewellery?

I remember the confidence in her hands, her well-loved tools an extension of her skill as a gifted silversmith and lapidary artist.

I’m talking about my grandmother, Rayleen.  I fondly refer to her as my Nan, and my earliest memories run deep and define a part of me.  With her partner Ray, they loved to travel our Aussie countryside fossicking, panning for gold, collecting rocks and shells along the way.  Her glass cabinets were filled with beautiful treasures.   Later, when my Nan passed away, I inherited her silversmithing tools, toolbox and all her creations she had been working on.  

Craving a creative outlet from my stressful job as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, reconnecting with my Nans’ memories and wanting to honour her talent and legacy, Ray of Sunshine Jewellery was born in 2016.

More than just a name, it’s your daily reminder to enjoy the simple things in life, go after what you seek and do what makes you happy!

Every creation I make starts with the raw stones or treasures from the sea, in their most honest and pure form.  Each one is embraced slowly and intuitively in Sterling Silver to highlight their natural features, no two pieces are ever the same and each has a fascinating story waiting to unfold, just like you.

My hand cut gemstones are one-of-a-kind and I am guided by the stones in this therapeutic process.  For me to cut gemstones, I need to feel their energy, and they choose me as much as I choose them.   I patiently search for each personality within to shine through and this becomes the feature of my designs. My hand-cut creations cannot be replicated and so makes them exclusively yours to enjoy.  I also love working with raw, druzy and natural stones too.

If you love to ‘give back’ like I do, you will be happy to know I recycle my all my Silver to create hand-made whale tails, dollops of sunshine, reusable designs and I proudly support Keppel Turtle Fund Inc. on our Great Barrier Reef. 

My designs are heavily influenced by my love for the sea, like my hammered ring bands remind me of moonlight shimmers dancing across the ocean, and my ear wire swirls resemble shiva shells found on our local beaches.  Each creation is unique, hand made with passion and just like us all, imperfectly perfect!
